چکیده

Mirror neurons are a relatively new phenomena, first observed in the premotor cortex of macaque monkeys when a number of neurons were observed to respond both when a monkey performed a goal orientated task, and when the monkey watched another (human or monkey) perform that task. A number of researchers have suggested that mirror neurons also exist in humans. It is proposed that a human mirror neuron system may contribute to a number of cognitive functions such as action understanding; ‘theory of mind’, humans’ abilities to infer another’s mental state through experiences or others’ behaviour; emotion understanding; imitation; and speech perception. Faulty human mirror neurons have even been suggested to underpin social impairments such as those characteristic of Autistic Spectrum Disorder (ASD). However, there has been much debate regarding the existence and functional roles of mirror neurons in humans. While there is much literature regarding human mirror neurons, the majority consist of reviews while few concern empirical experiments. Additionally concern has been expressed for some of the experimental methods used in empirical studies. A recent experiment from Mukamel et al. (2010) is the first of its kind to directly gather evidence for the existence of mirror neurons in humans and for their function subserving action understanding. The present review critically outlines the growth in this controversial field of research, taking into account the recent direct recording of human mirror neurons, and what implications this may have on our understanding of social cognition.

The effect of emotional processes on the performance of mirror neuron system in people with ADHD traits

Introduction Mirror neurons play an important role in the understanding of emotional functions. On the other hand, ADHD people are having difficulty understanding both emotional aspects. Therefore, the purpose of this study was to investigate the effect of the emotional processes on the functioning of the mirror neuron system in people with ADHD traits. Materials and Methods At first, 500 ...

Mirror Neurons and (Inter)subjectivity: Typological Evidence from East Asian Languages

Language is primarily constituted by action and interaction based on sensorimotor information. This paper demonstrates the nature of subjectivity and intersubjectivity through the neural mechanism and typological evidence of sentence-final particles from East Asian languages and extends to the discussion of the relationship between them. I propose that intersubjecivity is a kind of embedded or ...

نورون های آینه ای و نقش آن درتقلید و نظریه ی ذهن در کودکان طیف اتیسم

Recent studies have reported the discovery of a group of neurons in the motor cortex of the brain's gray. These neurons are called mirror neurons. Rizzolatti and colleagues in 1990s discovered the first mirror neuron system in monkeys in the University of Parma. Mirror neurons in brain are responsible for understanding the actions and intentions of others. The mirror neuron system has an import...

Mirror neurons and imitation: A computationally guided review

Neurophysiology reveals the properties of individual mirror neurons in the macaque while brain imaging reveals the presence of 'mirror systems' (not individual neurons) in the human. Current conceptual models attribute high level functions such as action understanding, imitation, and language to mirror neurons. However, only the first of these three functions is well-developed in monkeys. We th...

Reflecting on imitation in autism: introduction to the special issue.

In response to our call for papers for a special issue of Journal of Experimental Child Psychology on functions and mechanisms of imitation in childhood, we received a surprisingly large number of manuscripts on a wide range of topics. We were happy and encouraged that so much interesting work is being done on imitation, and sorry that space and time constraints meant that we could not publish ...
